dancing bucks and embroidered silk

brilliant count and countess, status played not only in the station but the voice . . . poor figaro couldn't get it up and looked like he missed the stage door for peter pan on ice . . . some curious capricious moments of scenography that reminded me of the convo with Nas while standing infront of the Swarovski window at the Casino when he says 'aren't they artistic?', and I am totally confounded. euh, no? what is artistic about a coloured glass duck? nevertheless, strong tempi and muscular showmanship kept this Figaro moving in the fast lane. What about those bubble butts, and the effeminate cherubino carrying-on like a Chrissy doll? And enough silk on stage to bury me in. . . . great to be at the Elgin, and be reminded yet again of things that could have been but never will.

Opera Atelier, in Toronto.
